When walking around Old San Juan you will encounter a lot of people. All of them are welcoming and very kind. The historical sites we visited, some of which we had never visited before, had an exceptional story behind them making this project full of learning experiences. With this project, we learned about our history and the people that founded our nation. This is very important because exploring our past is the greatest way to understand our future and helping us identify what needs to be improved.
Visiting all these sites taught us about the influence the Spaniards have in our architecture and how they built when they colonized Puerto Rico. The most important lesson the group got out of the project is that no matter how ancient these places are, it’s important to preserve them for future generations to enjoy our history. We observed that the majority of the historical sites that we visited had similar designs, because most of them were built by the same people.
If it wasn't for these founding fathers, we wouldn't have the historical sites our group has visited in this project. Year round these spots attract many tourists from around the globe helping San Juan's economy. It’s very important to keep protecting these places from being developed into modern buildings and, keep restoring these structures to further aid tourism in San Juan. With this project, we learned that we should encourage tourism in Old San Juan and preserve Puerto Rico's historic district.
